Mr. David Atkinson

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement on the steps his Department is taking to consult the General Council of British Shipping, the Passenger Shipping Association and the British passenger cruise ship owners, P and O/Cunard, about the proposed legislation to extend retaliatory powers into the cruise shipping sector contained in his Department's consultative document entitled, "Proposals for Legislation on Ship Registration and Other Matters".

The Department's consultative document on "Proposals for Legislation on Ship Registration and Other Matters" was issued on 9 March and comments on the proposals contained in the document have been invited from all interested parties.

asked the Secretary of State for Transport how many passengers were carried on British-registered passenger cruise ships in each of the years between 1977 and 1983.
