§ Mr. James Hill
asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will give the rates of charges for medications (a) for a patient receiving treatment in hospital and (b) for a patient being nursed at home who is in receipt of invalidity benefit.
§ Mr. John Patten
There is no charge for NHS inpatient treatment. The normal prescription charge arrangements apply to individuals being cared for at home. Many recipients of invalidity benefit will qualify for72W prescription charge exemption, and others will have purchased prepayment certificates. The remainder will pay the standard charge of £1.60 per item.
