HC Deb 10 July 1984 vol 63 c523W
Mr. Lawrence

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will fund existing research into a vaccine to prevent badgers contracting tuberculosis and spreading the disease.

Mrs. Fenner

I refer the hon. and learned Member to the reply I gave him on 5 March 1984, at column441. The major part of the research work on the immune responses of the badger to tuberculosis is funded by the Government. A basic understanding of these immune responses is an essential prerequisite for the development of an effective vaccine for use in badgers.
