§ Mr. David Atkinsonasked the Prime Minister if she will list those measures to help the self-employed taken since 1979.
§ The Prime MinisterThe Government have acted vigorously since 1979 with a wide range of measures to stimulate the development of small businesses and most of those are of benefit to the self-employed, in particular the loan guarantee and enterprise allowance schemes, training and advisory services, the tax relief for small workshops and a number of other tax measures such as the doubling in this year's Budget of the relief on capital gains tax retirement relief from £50,000 to £100,000. In addition, our success in the fight against inflation and the control of Government expenditure have lowered interest rates and benefited all those in business.
