HL Deb 04 July 1984 vol 454 c396WA
Lord Jenkins of Putney

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What was the smallest distance from ground zero at which there were servicemen in any British nuclear test in Australia and whether there were any human beings closer than that distance.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Armed Forces (Lord Trefgarne)

No servicemen were closer than 2000 yards from ground zero at the moment of detonation of any of the British nuclear tests in Australia and no other human beings were closer.
