Lord Oramasked Her Majesty's Government:
What contributions have been pledged by the United States and the United Kingdom respectively towards the $9 billion Seventh Replenishment of the International Development Association as agreed by the World Bank's Executive Board on 24th May; what would have been their respective 272WA contributions if the United States had agreed to the $12 billion replenishment as at one time proposed; whether Her Majesty's Government has yet made an offer to contribute to a $3 billion supplementary facility; and if so, what is the amount of that offer.
§ The Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Baroness Young)The United States and the United Kingdom have pledged, respectively, US$2,250 million and $603 million (£401.5 million) towards the $9 billion Seventh Replenishment. Had a replenishment of $12 billion been agreed, those contributions would have been $3,000 million and $804 million respectively.
Her Majesty's Government have stated their willingness to contribute to supplementary financing of up to $3 billion. The size of the United Kingdom's contribution would depend on the size of the supplementary funding and other arrangements to be negotiated, but on the basis of an extra $3 billion and the burden-sharing agreed for the $9 billion replenishment, the United Kingdom maximum share would be around $200 million.
