§ Mr. Fauldsasked the Under-Secretary of State answering in respect of the Arts whether the sum of £1,798,800 fixed by the Minister for the Arts as the amount to be raised by a public collection in the United Kingdom in order to purchase the 14th century Sienese painting of the Crucifixion for which he has temporarily withheld an export licence is (a) exclusive of or (b) inclusive of value added tax chargeable on agent's commission if a sale to a United Kingdom collection is effected.
§ Mr. WaldegraveThe price stipulated by my noble Friend the Minister for the Arts is exclusive of VAT. A United Kingdom public collection purchasing the painting would have to pay any VAT arising.
