HC Deb 24 January 1984 vol 52 cc540-1W
Mr. Geraint Howells

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he has any further plans to eradicate sheep scab; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Fenner

Consideration will be given to future sheep scab dipping arrangements in the light of the incidence of the disease this winter. Decisions about future plans will be made after discussion with the organisations concerned.

Mr. Geraint Howells

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how many outbreaks of sheep scab have been confirmed in the current year; what were the corresponding figures for the last three years; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Fenner

The figures up to 18 January are as follows:

Numbers
1981 11
1982 1
1983 15
1984 43

The increased incidence this year is attributable to the outbreaks which have been confirmed in the Cumbria-West Durham area in which infected area restrictions have been imposed.
