HC Deb 23 January 1984 vol 52 c380W
Mr. Parry

asked the Prime Minister if she will make a statement on her recent meeting with the Governor of Hong Kong concerning the future of the colony.

The Prime Minister

I met the Governor of Hong Kong and the Unofficial Members of the Executive Council on 16 January. This was their third visit to London for discussions since July 1983. It enabled me to reaffirm our continuing commitment to Hong Kong and to the search for a settlement, acceptable to Parliament, to China and to the people of Hong Kong. I also reiterated the importance which we continue to attach to keeping the Executive Council fully informed and to receiving then-advice.

As on previous such occasions, there was a comprehensive review of the developments in the Sino-British talks on Hong Kong's future. This produced a close identity of views on the matters involved.
