§ Mr. Eldon Griffithsasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the recent visit by the Minister for Overseas Development to India.
§ Mr. RaisonI had discussions with the Prime Minister of India, Mrs. Gandhi, and with other Indian Ministers and officials. We discussed various possibilities for the use of future British aid, in particular large projects in the power and steel sectors. I also discussed the existing aid programme and visited a number of projects, from which I concluded that our aid is making a valuable contribution to India's economic growth as well as helping effectively to raise the living standards of poor people.
