HC Deb 17 January 1984 vol 52 c164W
Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for Energy whether uranium oxide supplied to the Atomic Energy Authority, the Central Electricity Generating Board and British Nuclear Fuels, from Canada and Australia, carries a stipulation from the Governments of those countries that none of this material shall be used for military purposes.

Mr. Giles Shaw

Uranium oxide supplied by Canada and Australia to nuclear operators in the United Kingdom is subject to the terms of the 1959 Euratom-Canada agreement and the 1981 Euratom-Australia agreement. Both of these agreements prohibit the use of supplied material for military purposes or for the manufacture of any nuclear explosive device.
