asked the Secretary of State for Social Services in 1981, what percentage of (a) geriatric senior registrars in post and (b) mental handicap senior registrars in post had been born outside Great Britain and Ireland.

On 30 September 1981, 48 per cent. of senior registrars in geriatric medicine employed in the National Health Service in England (excluding locums) were born outside the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. The corresponding figure for mental handicap is 79 per cent.
