HC Deb 16 January 1984 vol 52 cc73-4W
Mr. Craigen

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will publish a table showing rateable values in respect of domestic, industrial and commercial and miscellaneous subjects for each of the regional, district and island authorities in Scotland.

Mr. Ancram

The information requested is contained in "Rating Review" which is published annually by the Scottish Branch of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy. There is a copy of the current edition in the Library.

Mr. Ernie Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is satisfied with the number of occupational therapists in Scotland.

Mr. John MacKay

There are shortages of practising occupational therapists in some areas. Total numbers employed in the NHS have however increased between 1979 and 1983 by some 39 per cent, and further improvement is expected.

Mr. Ernie Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what measures his Department is taking to make good any shortfall in the number of occupational therapists in Scotland.

Mr. John MacKay

My Department and the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities have formed a joint working party to examine ways of increasing the output of qualified occupational therapists from the existing training establishments. In addition my Department has provided a recruitment video tape for the use of careers staff in secondary schools.

Mr. Ernie Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the number of occupational therapists employed within each health board area; how many vacancies for occupational therapists exist currently within each board; and what are the corresponding figures for local authorities.

Mr. John MacKay

The numbers of occupational therapists employed within the NHS and by local authority social work departments in Scotland at September and October 1982 respectively are set out in the following table. Full information on vacancies is not held centrally.
