Mr. Caborn

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many private inpatients were admitted, and how many private outpatient attendances there were in National Health Service hospitals in the period April 1982 to April 1983 (a) nationally, (b) in Yorkshire and Humberside region and (c) in the metropolitan district of Sheffield.

In 1982 there were 198 discharges and deaths of private resident patients and also 2,243 outpatient attendances and 79 day case attendances by private non-resident patients in NHS hospitals in the Sheffield district health authority. 1982 figures for the Yorkshire regional health authority and for England are not yet available.

Mr. Corbett

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many people were on the waiting lists for inpatient treatment at National Health Service hospitals in each district health authority area and in the Trent regional health authority area in September 1981, September 1982 and September 1983.

So far as 1981 and 1982 are concerned, I have nothing to add to my replies to the hon. Member for Holborn and St. Pancras (Mr. Dobson) on 8 November—[Vol. 48, c.61–5]—and 22 November 1983— [Vol. 49, c. 116–122.] Figures for 30 September 1983 are not yet available.
