§ Mr. Greenwayasked the Attorney-General how many people served on juries in England and Wales in the latest year for which figures are available; and what were (a) the total and (b) the average expenses paid to such jurors.
§ The Attorney-GeneralThe number of persons who serve as jurors is not recorded centrally and could be obtained only at disproportionate expense. The total expenditure on jurors' expenses in the year ending 5 April 1983 was £14,127,069. As the number of jurors is not known it is not possible to calculate the average.
