HC Deb 16 January 1984 vol 52 c40W
Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how many bankruptcies of companies have occurred in England, in Scotland, Wales and in Northern Ireland, respectively, (i) since 1979 and (ii) in 1983.

Mr. Alexander Fletcher

The available figures of company liquidations involving insolvency and of bankruptcies are as follows. All 1983 figures are provisional. It should be noted that the separate figures for England and Wales are on a different basis and cover a different time period from the figure for England and Wales together.

as to the current net revenue expenditure of the Merseyside county museums service; and what safeguards he envisages offering the Merseyside county museums service in the event of Merseyside county council being abolished.

Mr. Waldegrave

I understand that Merseyside metropolitan county council has budgeted for a total net revenue expenditure of £3.26 million on the county museums service in 1983–84. Future arrangements for the Merseyside county museums service after the abolition of Merseyside metropolitan county council in 1986 will be decided in the light of the consultations on the Government's proposals.
