asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry whether he will publish in the Official Report a table showing the United Kingdom share of

European Economic Community imports of SITC division 0 (foodstuffs) in 1957, 1970 and the latest 12 months for which figures are available, together with the European Economic Community share of United Kingdom imports at the same dates.

Data for 1957 are not readily available. The United Kingdom accounted for 1.4 per cent. and 4 per cent. of Community imports of SITC Section 0 in 1970 and 1982 respectively. The Community's share of United Kingdom imports under this heading in these years was 29 and 50 per cent. respectively.
