§ Mr. Buchanan-SmithThe energy efficiency office is maintaining close links with the fuel industries and encourages an emphasis on energy efficiency in their advertising. I am appreciative of the support which the energy efficiency office has received from the fuel industries in their advertising since its launch last autumn. I look forward to continued co-operation and support for the national energy efficiency campaign.
§ Mr. Rostasked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will implement the recommendation of the Armitage Norton study to investigate the reasons for and methods used by overseas utilities to encourage energy savings among their customers.
§ Mr. Buchanan-SmithMy officials have reviewed the methods used by overseas utilities and are kept informed of developments. While overseas experience is relevant it must be seen against the differing environments in which overseas utilities operate. The energy efficiency office is working closely with the utilities in this country on ways of encouraging their customers to greater energy efficiency.
