asked the Secretary of State for Transport how many investment projects put forward by British Rail since May 1979 have been approved by him.

Of the 23 projects submitted to my Department in this period 14 have been approved in whole or part, 2 rejected, and 6 withdrawn by the board. I have one proposal — for east coast main line electrification—before me at present.
