HC Deb 24 February 1984 vol 54 cc663-4W
Mr. Boyes

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many recruits to the youth training scheme have been taken into the services (a) in the Houghton and Washington constituency and (b) in the north east; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Stanley

My Department does not collate information which shows the constituencies from which recruits are drawn. Up to 31 January 1984, 59 people had been accepted for training under the armed services youth training scheme at career information offices in Cleveland, Durham, Tyne and Wear, and Northumberland—less the offce at Berwick-upon-Tweed. For a statement on the scheme, I refer the hon. Member to the answer given to my hon. Friend the Member for Stamford and Spalding (Sir K. Lewis) on 16 February 1984 at c. 254.
