HC Deb 24 February 1984 vol 54 cc662-3W
Mr. D. E. Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will publish in the Official Report details of the number of sorties flown by each type of aircraft from Royal Aircraft Establishment Llanbedr in each year since 1974.

Mr. Lee

Sorties flown by aircraft based at RAE Llanbedr were as follows:

purpose of returning to those officers their commission parchments; and why his Department did not return such parchments to their owners within a reasonable time after the cessation of hostilities in 1945.

Mr. Lee

No staff in my Department are currently engaged in tracing those officers commissioned in world war 2 who have not received their commissioning parchments. Considerable efforts were made by the War Office between 1948 and 1962 to trace all the former Army officers concerned and some 250,000 commissioning parchments were issued during that period. It was decided in 1962 that, in view of the pressure on staff resources, no further attempt should be made to trace the minority of former Army officers whose commissioning parchments had not been issued by then. If my hon. Friend has a particular case in mind, he may wish to write to me.
