HC Deb 24 February 1984 vol 54 c670W
Mr. Amess

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether the code of practice of the British Standards Institute for glazing in buildings has ensured fewer injuries to children from accidents in the home involving glass in doors and windows.

Sir George Young

British Standards Institute code of practice 6262 for glazing in buildings became operative in June 1982; it is too early yet to discern definite trends in its effectiveness. My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry continues to monitor statistics for accidents in the home; it will be some time before any meaningful change in accident rates becomes apparent.
