HC Deb 23 February 1984 vol 54 cc627-8W
Dr. Roger Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many people in Scotland have been able to get social security assistance with the payment of their water bills even though they receive benefits on account of their exceptional and financial circumstances.

Dr. Boyson

Help with water charges is given through the supplementary benefit scheme in Scotland in the same way as in England and Wales, that the amount of water charges payable is taken into account in the supplementary benefit assessment.

The following figures show the number of householders in Scotland who were receiving supplementary benefit for each of the last four years up to the latest available date.

August thousand
1980 221
1981 247
1982 276
