HC Deb 23 February 1984 vol 54 cc631-2W
Mr. Ralph Howell

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will estimate the average weekly payment to the unemployed, taking into account supplementary benefit and earnings-related supplements, as well as flat-rate national insurance benefit.

Dr. Boyson

The average weekly payment to unemployed claimants is £32.13. This figure covers flat-rate unemployment benefit and supplementary benefit. Earnings-related supplement was abolished for new claimants from 3 January 1982 and it was not paid to previously existing claimants after 30 June 1982.
