HC Deb 23 February 1984 vol 54 c607W
Mr. Heddle

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether provision will be made for the do-it-yourself shared ownership programme in the Housing Corporation's approved development programme for 1984–85; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Gow

The Housing Corporation has given consent for nearly 3,000 sales under the DIYSO scheme, but the funds available under the initial programme launched in January last year were fully committed at an early stage. Useful lessons have been learned from the original scheme which proved to be a popular and effective way of providing home ownership to those on low incomes. The DIYSO procedures are being reviewed, but I regret that resources available for the Housing Corporation next year will not allow the scheme to be funded for 1984–85.
