§ Mr. Winnickasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether, in view of the resolution passed by the Assembly of the European Communities over the Nazi war criminal Rauff, he will be meeting the Foreign Minister of the Federal Republic of Germany to see what joint action can be taken to ensure that the terms of the resolution are put into effect; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. RifkindMy right hon. and learned Friend has no plans to seek a meeting with the Foreign Minister of the Federal Republic of Germany specifically for this purpose. We would, however, be content for Rauff's case to be discussed with the Germans and our other European Community partners within the framework of European political cooperation.
§ Mr. Winnickasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many letters have been received by his Department over requests for Her Majesty's Government's assistance for the Nazi war criminal, Rauff, to be brought to justice.
§ Mr. RifkindSince concern about Rauff revived last year, three letters specifically about him have been received from members of the public, as well as two letters dealing more generally with Nazi war criminals. The hon. Member has written four letters about Rauff to Ministers in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office over the same period.
§ Mr. Winnickasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what action is to be undertaken by Her Majesty's Government over the Nazi war criminal Rauff, arising from the resolution of the Assembly of the European Communities.
§ Mr. RifkindI refer the hon. Member to the replies that I and my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister gave today to his other questions.
