§ Mr. Tony Banksasked the Under-Secretary of State answering in respect of the Arts how many submissions received by the office of arts and libraries on the arts consultative paper which accompanied Cmnd. 9063 were in complete support of the Government's proposals.
§ Mr. Waldegrave[pursuant to his reply, 17 February 1984, c. 350]: Eight responses expressed complete support and suggested no changes. A much larger number indicated general support or acceptance of the Government's proposals, but also suggested alternative funding solutions for individual arts bodies affected by local government reorganisation. As my noble Friend has indicated, the Government are confident that current overall levels of public expenditure can be maintained on arts activities in the GLC and metropolitan county areas following local government reorganisation.
