§ Mr. George Robertsonasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many representations he has received urging Government action on breaches of human rights in Turkey.
§ Mr. WhitneyI regret that it is not practicable to give a precise answer to this question. But it is the case that we have received many expressions of concern in recent years about the situation in Turkey and about allegations of violations of human rights. We have made this concern known to the Turkish authorities. My right hon. and learned Friend spoke to the Turkish Foreign Minister about it most recently on 19 January.
