HC Deb 20 February 1984 vol 54 cc398-9W
33. Mr. Ernie Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Energy how much was spent during 1981–82 and 1982–83 on research into renewable resources in England, Scotland, Wales and the United Kingdom as a whole.

Mr. Peter Walker

My Department's expenditure was as follows:

£ million
England Scotland Wales Northern Ireland Total
1981–82 13.5 1.3 0.1 0.1 15.0
Energy technology support unit services 2.3
17.3
1982–83 10.2 1.5 0.3 0.2 12.2
Energy technology support unit services 2.0
14.2

The figure for 1981–82 included unusually high expenditure on geothermal aquifers because work on two boreholes overlapped in that year. It also included substantial expenditure on wavepower which has since been run down as recommended by ACORD.
