asked the Secretary of State for Energy what is his latest estimate of additional consumption of North sea oil because of the proposed removal of lead additives from petrol in 1990.

To move to unleaded petrol from a level of 0.15 grammes per litre is estimated to add some 300,000 tonnes a year to British demand for crude oil, assuming the most energy-efficient octane is chosen.
