HC Deb 16 February 1984 vol 54 c320W
Mr. Maxton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what representations he has received concerning the need for corrobation in cases concerning vehicle excise duty evasion.

Mr. Ancram

The offence of failing to exhibit a vehicle excise licence in the prescribed manner can already be provied on the evidence of one witness, but the more serious offence of using or keeping a vehicle on a public road without the appropriate licence requires corroborated evidence. After discussions on the question of enforcement with the police, my right hon. Friend is considering whether this requirement should be relaxed in such cases. No other representations have been received on this subject.
