HC Deb 15 February 1984 vol 54 c186W
29. Mr. Alton

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what representations he has received about providing compensation for service men and ex-service men suffering injury as a result of nuclear tests.

Mr. Pattie

The Government do not accept the allegations that service men suffered injury as a result of nuclear tests, but, as has already been announced, the Ministry of Defence has commissioned the National Radiological Protection Board to conduct an independent survey, which will demonstrate whether or not the Government's position is supported by new data. Meanwhile, a number of individual claims for compensation have been made and there have been general representations that the present Government assessment is faulty.
