asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will take further steps to assist industry in (a) the north-west region and (b) the metropolitan borough of Rochdale.

The White Paper on regional industrial development published on 13 December (Cmnd 9111) invites comments on a number of aspects of the Government's proposed changes in regional industrial assistance, including rates of grant and the assisted area map. All submissions received by 31 May, including any in respect of the north-west region and the metropolitan borough of Rochdale, will be taken into account before any decisions are reached.
