HC Deb 15 February 1984 vol 54 cc205-6W
Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether Edinburgh district council's application for a freeport in the South Gyle of West Edinburgh satisfied the criteria set out for trial freeports; and if it will be considered automatically when the use of freeports is reviewed.

Mr. Hayhoe

As I indicated in my statement to the House on 2 February at c.411, I do not think that it would be right to attempt to explain why one application was successful and why another failed. The operation of the freeports selected will be closely monitored and any decision to invite applications from additional locations would clearly depend on the results achieved.
