Mr. Heddle

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many claims by do-it-yourself builders for refunds of value added tax under the provisions of Customs and Excise notice No. 719 were made in 1982 and 1983.

The figures are 7,519 in 1982 and 7,712 in 1983.

[pursuant to his reply, 8 February 1984, c. 602]: The information is as follows. The figures relate to tax units, that is counting married couples as one. Estimates for 1981–82 onwards are provisional.
