§ Mr. Hoosonasked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will now make a statement about the future of the Cwmbran Development Corporation.
§ Mr. Nicholas EdwardsI have discussed with the chairman of the corporation the best way of proceeding to an orderly wind-up of the affairs of the corporation, and have concluded that to allow the corporation a reasonable time to complete its major remaining tasks within the level of resources likely to be available the target date for windup should be 31 March 1988. Resources will not be available to the corporation for additional public sector housing, but it will be able to co-operate fully with and encourage private housing developers who wish to build in the area. Progress towards the wind-up of the corporation will be reviewed next year.
In the meantime, the corporation will continue to dispose of its industrial and commercial assets to the private sector and its houses to its tenants wherever practicable.
