asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many people are employed in the quality assurance directorate.

Mr. Lee

There were 4,711 persons employed in separate quality assurance organisations in the Ministry of Defence on 1 February 1984. The strengths of the main quality assurance directorates were as follows:

In addition, there are a number of smaller directorates employing fewer than 250 each.
