Mr. Bermingham

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many applications under the Mental Health Act 1983 to the mental health review tribunals made by patients detained under that Act in one of the four special hospitals at the time of their application were subsequently withdrawn, broken down by special hospital.

Between 30 September 1983, when the Mental Health Act 1983 was implemented, and 31 January 1984, four applications to a mental health review tribunal were withdrawn by patients from Broadmoor hospital, one from Rampton hospital and none from Moss Side or Park Lane hospitals.
