asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he has studied the effect of a reduction in the level of income tax on the level of expenditure on imported goods.

Mr. Moore

The effect will depend very much on other developments in the economy. To the extent that beneficiaries from the tax cut spend their additional disposable income, a part will go on imported goods.
