HC Deb 09 February 1984 vol 53 cc718-9W
Mr. Williams

asked the Minister for the Civil Service how many vacancies exist in the Civil Service at executive officer level and above in the Cheltenham travel-to-work area and nationally.

Mr. Hayhoe

The Civil Service Commissioners expect to be asked to recruit to about 5,000 vacancies nationally at executive officer level and above during 1984. In addition, a much greater number of vacancies are expected to arise nationally which will be filled by staff on level transfer or promotion. It is not possible at this stage to say what proportion of either type of the vacancies will be in the Cheltenham travel-to-work area.
