HC Deb 08 February 1984 vol 53 c599W
Mr. Michael Forsyth

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what progress the Board of Inland Revenue is making in its proposals to privatise the sorting of individual revenue papers and tax files.

Mr. Moore

The Inland Revenue is carrying out a feasibility study to see whether it might be more cost effective to contract out the work of the sorting centre at Kew which handles all inter-office post. Tenders from reputable contractors are now being examined. The Department is also reviewing the working arrangements in the present centre to see whether, with improved efficiency, a case can be made for retaining the work within the Department.
