HC Deb 08 February 1984 vol 53 c609W
Mr. Sims

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if the professional executive register is now operating at a profit; what functions it performs which could not be undertaken by a commercial organisation; and whether it is his intention to privatise the operation.

Mr. Peter Morrison

At the Government's request, professional and executive recruitment was put on to a full cost recovery basis from 1 April 1983. Current indications are that the service will meet its self-financing objective for this financial year.

Professional and executive recruitment's distinctive features are its nationwide coverage and a service provided primarily through a national jobs newspaper "Executive Post". There are no plans at present to change its current basis of operation, but its future will be kept under review in the light of its financial performance.
