HC Deb 08 February 1984 vol 53 c662W
Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what proposals are in hand to increase the pay of qualified and skilled nurses to encourage them to stay in patient care rather than move into administration.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

It is for the review body on the remuneration of nursing and midwifery staff and professions allied to medicine to recommend appropriate pay levels for all nursing staff, including qualified nurses. The review body has been asked to make its first report on pay levels from 1 April 1984. The Government would welcome developments to improve the attractiveness of careers in patient care relative to careers in administration.
