asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is, for the last 12 months available, the amount spent by his Department on advertisements (a) in newspapers, (b) on television and (c) on radio on television licence evasion.

During 1983, the costs of advertisements about television licence evasion in newspapers, television and radio were £88,000, £755,000 and £47,000, respectively.
