asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) how many convicted offenders have been given youth custody sentences up to the latest date available, and by age;
(2) how many convicted offenders have been given youth custody sentences since the implementation of the Criminal Justice Act 1982, by month.
§ Mr. Mellor
We plan to publish shortly a statistical bulletin giving details of the information so far available 421W on the use of the new sentencing structure for young offenders in the first six months after the implementation of the Criminal Justice Act 1982.

The information requested is given in the following table. The figures for 31 May reflect the transitional effects of the implementation on 24 May of part 1 of the Criminal Justice Act 1982.
