asked the Secretary of State for Defence what is the most up-to-date estimate of the cost of the Trident nuclear weapon.

The latest estimate, as given in the statement on the Defence Estimates 1983 is approximately £7½ billion at average 1982–83 prices. Updated estimates will be presented in the statement on the Defence Estimates 1984.
