§ Mr. Barry Jonesasked the Secretary of State for Wales what is his estimate (a) of the amount of cash available to the Wales Manpower Services Commission consequent upon the proposals of the White Paper "Training for Jobs" of 31 January and (b) of the rate support grant loss to Welsh local authorities consequent upon the proposals.
§ Mr. Nicholas EdwardsThe precise amount will depend upon the outcome of consultations on the proposals but it would be reasonable for the present to assume that of the £65 million additional provision for the MSC in 1985–86 some £3 million to £4 million would be from within the Wales programme for spending by the Commission in Wales. In 1986–87 the total additional provision will be £110 million, of which the Wales element might be more than £5 million. The Wales rate support grant total will in each year be lower than it otherwise would be by an amount equivalent to that made available to the Commission under these arrangements.
