HC Deb 06 February 1984 vol 53 c430W
Mr. Leighton

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he is satisfied that the National Advisory Board for Public Sector Higher Education in its 1983 recommendations took full account of the needs of socially deprived areas of the United Kingdom.

Mr. Brooke

Yes. The National Advisory Body's plans for 1984–85, as endorsed by my right hon. Friend, provide both for a significant shift of higher education provision in England towards those regions with less than their proportionate share at present, and for the admission to higher education of all suitably qualified students regardless of where they live.
