HC Deb 06 February 1984 vol 53 c451W
Mr. Prescott

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what assistance was given by Her Majesty's Coastguard to the Turkish vessel Kaptan Beksak in establishing its true position on 21 January off the Shiants isles; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Ridley

During very severe weather conditions on the evening of 21 January the Turkish vessel Kaptan Beksak on passage through the Minch contacted Stornoway coastguard for advice on a safe anchorage. Having established the vessel's position off the Shiant islands from visual and radar observations furnished by the master, Stornoway coastguard provided navigational advice and information which enabled the vessel to be brought safely to anchor in Broad Bay.
