HC Deb 06 February 1984 vol 53 c493W
Mr. Steen

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the total cost of administering the community programme per month and per year; what is the weekly cost per person engaged in the programme, defined as the administrative pro-rata cost to the public; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Morrison

The total cost of administering the community programme, running at its full size of 130,000 filled places throughout the 1984–85 financial year, is estimated to be £10.071 million; that is £839,250 per month. On the same assumptions the weekly cost per person on temporary jobs on the programme will be about £1.50 or 1.8 per cent. of the total weekly cost per place. The organisation and staffing of the community programme are kept under review.
